On my knowledge quest, I started off with history, history of my orgin and place and people. Then i got hooked onto world history, organizational history, history of everything. Of course, time of essence. Then my quest lead me to philosophy and human consciousness. Came to realize that religion and beliefs are part of it.
Then i try to dig deeper, i could reach Evolution and Darwin. Not all the answers i am looking for, but seems to be more of logical, rational explanation for history of everything. I could go towards Big Bang and space. But that direction could wait for some time. Evolution and Darwin seems to be more towards us as a human.
Got a long weekend to spend so i got hold of few books on Evolution from our nearby community library. (Sengkang, Singapore)
David Sloan Wilson’s "Evolution for Everyone" . Not sure of arguments and internal fights withing the evolution groups. But i find this book more interesting than other two. And i like the way the author trying to strike a balance and not just prove that we are all Animals here. His stand and move towards philosophy seems fit for my reasoning.
Carl Zimmer's "Evolution: The Triumph of an Idea": Nice history book with lot of technical explanation for the history of evolution. I always wondered, if human from chimp, then chimp from what...and so on... This book was good in explaining all those intermediaries. Nice details. Still i understand that the fossils are in digital form, still not yet an analog form of continuous step by step evolution.
Richard Dawkin's "The Selfish Gene": Hardcore, but bit argumentative. I am yet to take any side. But have to accept, "altruism is deceiving". His analysis on sociobiology was informative. One thing i find very interesting is that how we could have evolved memory, consciousness and cultural evolution. And that too being encoded in gene...mmmm...need more study.
Few more things which i caught my attentions in these books:
Movement of eyes: Humans way of expression feeling with eyes is remarkable. And we can move the eyes whereas all other animals move their head in the direction they intend. Interesting.
Memory and Written language: For individual, memory and written language of limited use. But for a group, these tools helps a lot in getting your idea to everyone. I will try to explore more this area in line with my MEMORY topics.
